The 30.00 T-Shirt.

I remember the days of t-shirts costing me no more the $15.00 and that was for the crazy name brand tee. When will this trend of the over $30.00 tee end. Really!!!! are we that dumb to pay that for a t-shirt. Do you not know that at the most the shirt cost them $6.00 to make. And $6.00 is for a really high end tee with a shit load of colors. I still think the best is the dumb ass kids that are paying the $80.00  for a Billionaire boys club tee. I mean really give it up it will not make you cool.

Here’s the deal with the $30.00 price point. Many small, boutique brands (pretty much ever streetwear label) are not capable of producing the quantities of larger brands like Quiksilver, LRG or Nike for that matter. Because they operate in such small quantities they do not get price breaks on:

    1. Blanks
    2. Printing
    3. Shipping

Additionally most boutique stores want at least a 60% margin, which means at whole sale a $30 shirt is being sold for $12. Factor in the cost of shipping, boxing and storage and the supplier is looking at about $3-$5/shirt. Also factor in that many boutiques will only buy 3-6 pieces of your line in the smallest quantity they can squeeze and that makes it very tough. Now apply your $15 price point and do the math.

So if you want to continue to see brands that aren’t backed by some dude who wants to sap their creativity or just sell mass-produced bs, then keep complaining about $30. But I don’t think you want that, I think you just want cool stuff at lower price points.

I do too, unfortunately we define our own level of cool.

30 dollars a shirt isnt bad if the design is worth it and the material is good quality. 80 dollars for some BBC shit with an iron on print is just dumb.

I have to agree. $30 for a tee shirt is just. Way too much money. I brake down every now and again but. I feel bad doing it.
